In this part of the world called Nigeria, we all love fashion but we underestimate other aspect or element of fashion.

There is more to fashion than you think. So what is fashion? “Fashion is a popular style especially in clothing, footwear, lifestyle, accessories, makeup, hairstyle and body. Fashion is a distinctive and often constant trend in the style in which people present themselves”. Wikipedia

How do you present yourself? So many people believed that fashion is all about what you wear or put on alone. It is not limited to that; it includes the body- The way you walk, talk, sit, and smell, glowing skin and tattoo

Choosing the way you smell is part of fashion. The soap, toothpaste, body cream, deodorant or anti-perspirant, perfume and diet is the most neglected part of fashion. Having a good make over should come after the body has been carefully taken care of. Thus fashion is indirectly related to health.

Today I will be focusing on body scent. We all sweat during our daily hustle due to the weather condition of our country, most times before you get to pick a bus or to the garage sweat is all over you. What do you need to reduce the excessive sweat and smell? I know majority will think is perfume or deodorant. No, there is more to it than artificial scents.

Our skin sweats to excrete waste, and when sweat dries on the skin it can smell. Therefore, depending on one’s lifestyle and level of activity, regular baths or showers with a nice deodorising soap or shampoo are important to maintain good hygiene. When washing, focus on troublesome areas such as the armpits and feet. Dry your body well. If your skin is dry, it is harder for bacteria to breed on it.

Bacteria thrive in warm, moist environments and can cling to underarm hair. Being clean shaven can help reduce odour.

What you eat largely affects your body smells. Green vegetables are natural deodorisers which keep you smelling fresh. This is the reason many brides go on a detox before they get married. Foods cooked with too much garlic, onions, spices, and caffeine, may cause bad odours to seep from your pores after you eat them. Limit your intake of these foods, and remember to stay well hydrated.

It is normal to sweat under your armpits, however, if your body is healthy and clean, you shouldn’t smell

We cannot deny the fact that the commercial scent helps as well. Thus you need to carefully choose a good anti-perspirant. Some perspirant work for 24hrs, 48hrs and 72hrs.I will advise that when you are choosing your anti-perspirant you carefully read what is written on the bottle before selection. If the 72hrs is chosen you will stay dry for 3 days without sweat smell.   Anti-perspirant should be used after bath every day. You can decide to stick to a particular scent if you want to have a distinctive personal scent. Using anti-perspirant does not eliminate the use of perfume.

Stay tuned for the next series of Neglected part of fashion.
